Parks & Recreation Programs

The Department of Parks & Recreation offers programs for all ages througout the year. Look for special events and trips that we have scheduled for our residents. We also host a senior citizen's club as well as a variety of adult sports leagues. To register, download the General Registration Form, complete and return with payment to the Parks and Recreation Office.

  • 2010 Fall Recreation Programs
    Registration is now open for the programs listed below. Download the general registration form, complete and send in or drop off at our office. Your confirmation will be your receipt.
    • Fall Adult Programs
      • Boot Camp - NEW
        6 classes meet on Wednesdays, Sept. 22 - Oct. 27 Time: 6am - 7am OR 5:30pm - 6:30pm Ages: Adult 18+ Location: Masons Mill Walking Trail (meet at the lion water fountain) Fee: $65 R / $97 NR This ‘results-driven’ fitness class incorporates cardiovascular and bodyweight resistance in a team oriented atmosphere. The program is designed for all levels of fitness and is a fun, no judgment program. Please wear comfortable clothes, a pair of sneakers and bring water. The motivation will be provided by Alli Schwartz, ACE certified fitness instructor.
      • Fly Fishing Tactics
        5 classes meet on Tuesdays, Sept. 21 - Oct. 19 Time: 7pm - 9pm Location: UM High School (room TBA) Fee: $47 Improve your skills and catch more fish! Learn how to "read" the waters of a trout stream. Find out where fish live, how to approach them, and how to catch them. Know what they feed on and learn the types of flies to use at different times of the year. Become a better fisherman and reduce your chances of coming up empty. The instructor is one of the area's most successful trout anglers and has logged literally thousands of hours fishing and instructing on East Coast trout and salmon waters.
      • Fly Tying Class
        6 classes meet on Thursdays, Sept. 23 - Oct. 28 (exception - class will meet on WEDNESDAY, Oct. 20th instead of the 21st) Time: 7pm - 9pm Location: UM High School (room TBA) Fee: $47 If you’re interested in fly-fishing and fly-tying, this is the course you’ve been waiting for. Don’t wait - be ready for opening day. Learn how to create wet & dry flies, nymphs, streamers, and bass bugs. Suggestions for tools and materials will be given at the first class. Advanced instruction will also be available for experienced participants wishing to advance their fly-tying skills.  There is one instructor for intermediate/advanced and a different instructor for beginners.
      • Karate
        25 classes meet on Mondays & Thursdays, Sept. 20 - Dec. 20 (omit 11/4 & 11/25) Time: Mon. 7:45pm - 9pm Thurs. 7pm - 9pm Location: UM Primary School Gym Fee: $110 R / $160 NR Discipline, humility, and desire to achieve will be acquired in this fun multi-level class. Our instructors are certified, caring individuals who will work to teach you the fundamentals. This program has been a part of Parks & Recreation since 1982. The class features instruction in traditional Shotokan Karate in a relaxed, non-threatening setting. You’ll strengthen self-awareness and self-confidence.
      • Tennis
        10 classes meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays, Sept. 21 - Oct. 21 Time: 6:30pm - 7:30pm (beginner) OR 7:30pm - 8:30pm (intermediate) Ages: Adult 18+ Location: Masons Mill Tennis Courts Fee: $75 R / $110 NR Whether new to the game, making a comeback or fine-tuning your skills, we are here for you. Join our outgoing and energetic tennis pro, Stan Shoemaker for some fun and fitness. Register for the session that you think fits, you can always change your level.

      • American Red Cross Babysitting
        Tuesday, November 2 - School In-service Day Location: Pileggi Park Soccer Clubhouse Times: 9am – 3pm (6 hours) Ages: 11 - 15 years Fee: $44 R / $66 NR This certification course provides teens with the confidence and skills to care for youngsters. Prospective employers will be happy to hire babysitters who have acquired this official recognition. Upon completion of the course, you will receive an ARC Certification Card, a handbook, as well as child care concepts. You must attend the entire course, pass the evaluations, and show the maturity to properly care for children. Please bring a lunch, pencil and snack.
      • School's Out Sports Camp - NEW
        Wed., Nov. 3 - Fri., Nov. 5 Time: 11:30am - 3pm (10 1/2 hours) Ages: Grades K - 5 Location: UM Primary School Gym Fee: $75 R / $110 NR What are UM students doing during the parent/teacher conference days in November? Let us get your children away from the t.v. and into some physical activity. Total Sports Camps provide a great opportunity for children in your community to develop skills and knowledge in a wide variety of sports. Impact Sports is dedicated to provide positive role models fo your children. Participants will also benefit from a consistent and committed coaching team. Our programs provide the ideal challenge for both new and experienced sports players.
      • Young Rembrandts - Afterschool Drawing
        6 classes meet on Wednesdays, Sept. 22 - Oct. 27 (Session I) OR Nov. 10 - Dec. 15 (Session II) Time: 3pm - 4pm Ages: 1: Primary (K - 2) 2: Interm. (3 - 5) Location: 1: Primary Room 11 2: Interm. Room 227 Fee: $75 R / $110 NR In addition to expanding students’ young image vocabularies, our curriculum helps develop fine motor skills & learning skills that are essential to future classroom success. youngrembrandts.com
      • Young Rembrandts - Middle School Cartoon Drawing
        6 classes meet on Mondays, Sept. 20 - Oct. 25 (Session I) OR Nov. 8 - Dec. 13 (Session II) Time: 2:45pm - 4pm Ages: Gr. 6 - 8 Location: UMMS Room 810 Fee: $75 R / $110 NR Doodling encouraged! YR views drawing - the fundamental skills of all visual arts - as a teachable skill that any child can and should learn.       • Youth Karate
        13 classes meet on Mondays, Sept. 20 – Dec. 13 Time: 7pm – 7:45pm Ages: 6 & older Location: UM Primary School Gym Fee: $52 R / $73 NR Discipline, humility, and desire to achieve will be acquired in this fun and interesting class. Our instructors are certified, caring individuals who will work to teach you the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate, while also helping children improve focusing skills & self-confidence.
    • Fall Preschool 'Wee' Programs
      These are 45 minute mommy & me classes offered throughout the Autumn months. Spend some time with you children and more importantly have some fun! Register for 2 or more classes and pay only $35 R / $55 NR per class (same family)!
      • 'Wee' Cheer - NEW
        5 classes meet on Fridays, Nov. 12 - Dec. 17 (omit 11/26) Times: 10am - 10:45am Ages: 2-5 yrs Location: Pileggi Park Clubhouse Fee: $39 R / $59 NR Intro to dance, tumbling & cheering. Pick up the beat from Miss Amy, who will lead your children in beginner tumbling, cheerleading moves and rhythmic dance. Fun and enjoyable way to introduce your little rah rah to the sis koom bah!!!
      • 'Wee' Explore
        5 classes meet on Mondays, Nov. 8 - Dec. 6 Times: 1pm - 1:45pm Ages: 2-5 yrs w/ caregiver Location: Pileggi Park Clubhouse Fee: $39 R / $59 NR We’ll explore our environment, nature, animals, science and much more. A new topic each week with a new theme will help children understand the importance and fascination that the world has to offer. Books, crafts, circle time and other fun activities will make learning a snap.
      • 'Wee' Make a Mess
        5 classes meet on Wednesdays, Sept. 22 - Oct. 20 (Session 1) Time: 1pm - 1:45pm OR Nov. 10 - Dec. 8 (Session 2) Time: 10am - 10:45am Ages: 2-5 yrs w/ caregiver Location: Pileggi Park Clubhouse Fee: $39 R / $59 NR We will provide the place, instruction, supplies and clean up! Dive into this untidy agenda of shaving cream, paint, playdough, markers and whatever else we can come up with. Fun has never been so messy.
      • 'Wee' Make Music
        5 classes meet on Mondays, Sept. 20 - Oct. 18 Time: 5pm - 5:45pm OR Fridays, Sept. 24 - Oct. 22 Time: 10am - 10:45am Ages: 1-5 yrs w/ caregiver Location: Pileggi Park Clubhouse Fee: $39 R / $59 NR An immersion in music through singing, dancing, movement, literacy & listening. Sing simple songs, engage in finger plays and move to the sound. Miss Mindy will let you explore full-sized instruments as well as play some of your own. We will help develop a love for music!
      • 'Wee' Play Sports
        5 classes meet on Mondays, Sept. 20 - Oct. 18 (rndate: 10/25) Time: 1pm - 1:45pm Ages: 3-5 yrs w/ caregiver Location: Pileggi Park Clubhouse Fee: $39 R / $59 NR Teamwork and fun is the name of the game. Miss Shannon will introduce your youngster to a variety of popular sports. We take a fun, hands-on approach to make the first impression of the sport a memorable one. Bring water and dress for the weather.
      • 'Wee' Tennis
        5 classes meet on Thursdays, Sept. 23 - Oct. 21 (rndate: 10/28) Times: 10am – 10:30am Ages: 3-5 yrs w/ caregiver Location: Masons Mill Tennis Cts. Fee: $39 R / $59 NR Tennis is a lifetime sport and a great first-time athletic activity. Help develop your child’s hand-eye coordination and ability to listen and follow directions. Mr. Stan will use to music and focus on parent/child interaction to promote success on the tennis court. Bring water and wear sneakers.
      • 'Wee' Wiggle - NEW
        5 classes meet on Thursdays, Sept. 23 - Oct. 21 Time: 1pm - 1:45pm Ages: 3-5 yrs w/ caregiver Location: Pileggi Park Clubhouse Fee: $39 R / $59 NR Let’s Play Today (creative movement for kids) ® aims to develop physical, social and emotional skills. This class is filled with energy and laughter from everyone who is wiggling! Instructor Heidi Brillhart will use balls, obstacle courses, parachutes, beanbags, hula hoops & other fun games will help improve strength, motor skills & coordination.
  • Programs, Brochures, Newsletters & Flyers
    The Parks and Recreation Department provides three brochure/newsletters annually, as well as program flyers. Each brochure/newsletter is full of valuable information pertaining to seasonal offerings. We offer a Summer Newsletter, Fall Newsletter, and Winter/Spring Newsletter. Brochures and newsletters are distributed to all public and parochial schools, are available in the township building and the library, and at other locations.
    • Department Trips
      The department runs trips to various locations at different times of the year. We offer trips to sporting events, NYC, a variety of shows, shopping, sightseeing etc. The cost includes round-trip transportation AND other items as noted in specific descriptions. Check back often to see what exciting trip we have scheduled! If you have a suggestion for an interesting day trip, please contact our office. We love to hear your ideas.
    • Discount Tickets
      The Upper Moreland Township Department of Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with the PA Recreation and Parks Society, is pleased to offer DISCOUNTED AMUSEMENT PARK TICKETS and DISCOUNTED SKI LIFT TICKETS. The tickets are offered on a first paid basis; the offer is good only while supplies last. Our supply of tickets may be replenished periodically throughout the season. Proceeds benefit the U.M. Gifts-For-Parks Program. Payment for all tickets must be made in cash, money order, or bank cashiers check (payable to Upper Moreland Twp.). No personal checks can be accepted. Some tickets may have restrictions, inquire at the Parks and Recreation Office. Tickets are good for the entire operating season (unless noted). NO REFUNDS! Amusement Park tickets are usually available beginning May 1 and ski lift tickets are usually available beginning December 1.
      • Disney On Ice - TOY STORY 3
        Choose from 5 showtimes! 12/27 11am & 3pm; 12/28 7pm; 12/29 11am OR 12/30 3pm. Lower Level Seats are $29 each. The show follows Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the Toy Story gang as they escape from Sunnyside Daycare! Lotso Bear and Barbie’s Ken join the cast this time around. To infinity and beyond!

    • Special Events
      The department offers several special events for youngsters and the entire family. Events include holiday drawing contests, winter holiday contests, Pumpkins on Parade Halloween event, Thanksgiving “Fowl” shooting contest, and other events throughout the year. Check this section often as events are continuously updated.
      • 2010 Fowl Shooting Contest
        Friday, November 19, 2010 U.M. Middle School Gym 7:30PM-8:30PM Win Thanksgiving dinner for your family, just for sinking some foul shots! $1 per 10 shots. Age groups range from Pre-K to 50+...fun for everyone in your family! Mark your calendars now!!!
      • 2010 Pumpkins On Parade
        Saturday, October 23, 2010 Masons Mill Park 6pm - 9pm (rain date Sunday, October 24) *Skip the line, pre-register for this event beginning Thursday, 9/30 at the P&R office and receive your tickets prior to the event. No refunds. Children (12 and under) $5 for all activities Hayride only tickets (adults) $3 per person Kids who show up in costume will receive a free hot chocolate All activities are “while supplies last” and there will be no refunds once tickets are purchased. Get there early to enjoy all we have to offer.

      The Golden Reporter is a resourceful publication that will keep you up to date on Golden Age Club issues such as future meetings, events, and trips.
