Willow Grove 300 - The Tri-Centennial
In 2011, Willow Grove Pennsylvania will celebrate its 300th Anniversary and a Steering Committee has been organized to plan, implement and manage a month long celebration of this historical occasion. The Tri-Centennial Celebration will be held in May 2011, and it will include parades, band concerts, educational seminars, community fairs, athletic events, scout jamborees and historical re-enactments fitting for the occasion.

Community Day
The Willow Grove Tri-Centennial Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Family activities, music, military displays, childrens rides, performances and games will be running all day. A movie under the stars will be shown at dusk. All events will take place on the grounds of the Upper Moreland Middle School. Raindate for this event is Sunday, May 15th.

Tri-Centennial Craft Show Information
As part of that celebration we we will be holding a Community Day Craft Festival. This craft show will run simultaneously with other events being held to celebrate the Tri-Centennial. The application to apply for participatioin in the craft festival can be found at the link below. Only hand-crafted items accepted, as well as vendors such as Avon, Pampered Chef, etc. (these types of vendors will be limited). Flea-market types of items will NOT be permitted and the WG Tri-Centennial Committee has the right to remove items they find offensive or inappropriate. Electricity will not be available. Vendors must provide their own tables/chairs. Fee is $30 for one 15 x 15 space; $50 for 2 spaces. Deadline for application is April 22. You may cancel and receive a full refund up to April 29. Cancellations will not be accepted after that date. NO smoking on grounds; no pets permitted on grounds. If the event is rained out, a full refund will be available.

Softball Leagues
The Department offers both Men's and Coed softball leagues during the Spring and Fall. All games are played at either Masons Mill Park, Terwood Park or North Willow Grove Park. All games are officiated by a qualified Amatuer Softball official and follow current A.S.A. rules (some league rules supersede A.S.A. rules). Our seasons typically begin in April for the Spring season and August for the Fall season.

Parks & Recreation Programs
The Department of Parks & Recreation offers programs for all ages througout the year. Look for special events and trips that we have scheduled for our residents. We also host a senior citizen's club as well as a variety of adult sports leagues. 2011 Little Bear Camp Program
Registration begins on Tuesday, April 12th. Our “L.B.C.” program is a unique, close to home experience that emphasizes FUN! “L.B.C.” meets FOUR mornings per week, MONDAYS-THURSDAYS, from 9AM-12:30PM. Fridays are used for rain make ups. Each week is one session. You may sign up for all six sessions or pick and choose sessions throughout the summer. Each session offers games, storytelling, arts/crafts, special events, and FUN! Youngsters are grouped according to age and are instructed by a qualified adult leader and aides. Space in each age group is limited, and registrations are accepted on a first-paid basis.

2011 Supervised Playground Program
Registration begins on Monday, April 11th. Our Supervised Playground program offers township youngsters entering grades 2-8 a wide variety of activities, including playground activities, sports and games, swimming, movies, special events and local trips. Youngsters may also register for optional amusement park trips, for an additional fee. Our goal is to provide supervised summer playgrounds that are moderately structured, safe, and enjoyable for all.

2011 Teen Trex Camp Program
Registration begins on Tuesday, April 12th. The Upper Moreland Parks and Recreation Department will once again offer our Teen Camp. We offer a fun and safe place for your teenagers to join their friends and have some summer fun. Exciting trip destinations will be sure to keep these teens happy and busy.

Discipline, humility, and desire to achieve will be acquired in this fun multi-level class. Our instructors are certified, caring individuals who will work to teach you the fundamentals. This program has been a part of Parks & Recreation since 1982. The class features instruction in traditional Shotokan Karate in a relaxed, non-threatening setting. You’ll strengthen self-awareness and self-confidence.

Location: Masons Mill Tennis Courts

Masons Mill is a great place to meet each month of the year for athletes who want to get together to meet players at their level. Matches in women’s or men’s doubles, mixed doubles and singles will be set up. We will also provide a drill court for beginners and anyone who wants a warm-up before match play. At each Meet-Up there is a raffle drawing for tennis prizes, refreshments & snacks, a special challenge to hit for prizes.

4th & 5th Grade Intramurals
U.M. Township resident students in grades 4 & 5 are offered a FREE after-school sports program in cooperation with the U.M. School District. Intramurals are open to all public, private and parochial students and begin the week of March 21st. Spring events include ‘sports and games’ and will be held at the Intermediate School. A special intramural flyer with a registration form will be distributed to all 4th and 5th grade students. See the IM flyer for more details.

This class is an exploration of everything Theatrical. Children will act out stories, make and play with puppets and masks. The Parks and Recreation Department provides three brochure/newsletters annually, as well as program flyers. Each brochure/newsletter is full of valuable information pertaining to seasonal offerings. We offer a Summer Newsletter, Fall Newsletter, and Winter/Spring Newsletter. Brochures and newsletters are distributed to all public and parochial schools, are available in the township building and the library, and at other locations.

Department Trips
The department runs trips to various locations at different times of the year. We offer trips to sporting events, NYC, a variety of shows, shopping, sightseeing etc. The cost includes round-trip transportation AND other items as noted in specific descriptions. Check back often to see what exciting trip we have scheduled! If you have a suggestion for an interesting day trip, please contact our office. We love to hear your ideas.

Discount Tickets
The Upper Moreland Township Department of Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with the PA Recreation and Parks Society, is pleased to offer DISCOUNTED AMUSEMENT PARK TICKETS and DISCOUNTED SKI LIFT TICKETS. The tickets are offered on a first paid basis; the offer is good only while supplies last. Our supply of tickets may be replenished periodically throughout the season. Proceeds benefit the U.M. Gifts-For-Parks Program. Payment for all tickets must be made in cash, money order, or bank cashiers check (payable to Upper Moreland Twp.). No personal checks can be accepted. Some tickets may have restrictions, inquire at the Parks and Recreation Office. Tickets are good for the entire operating season (unless noted). NO REFUNDS! Amusement Park tickets are usually available beginning May 1 and ski lift tickets are usually available beginning December 1.

The department offers several special events for youngsters and the entire family. Events include holiday drawing contests, winter holiday contests, Pumpkins on Parade Halloween event, Thanksgiving “Fowl” shooting contest, and other events throughout the year. Montgomery County Senior Games
The Montgomery County Senior Games (MCSG) combine sports and recreation with fellowship among everyone involved. Each year these games are held during the 2nd week of May at the Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell. A few events are held at several specialized facilities in the area as well. The Senior Games are not qualifying events with an emphasis on camaraderie, friendly competition and fun. Some of our athletes even go on to compete in the PA Senior Games held each summer. Adults turning age fifty this year and older, who reside in Montgomery County, may register to compete. We are in need of volunteers for this week-long event.
